Meet the team: Jorja-Rose Wells
Jorja-Rose Wells joined the Brisbane Convention Bureau in 2016 as a Digital Content Producer, having previously worked with the Major Events team and Digital team at Brisbane Marketing.
In her role, Jorja-Rose looks after the digital marketing and content strategies for the Brisbane Convention Bureau and also for Study Brisbane.
My role with Brisbane Marketing involves:
I plan, create and curate the digital, content and social media strategies for the Convention Bureau and Study Brisbane. Day-to-day for the Bureau, this means executing campaign strategies to coincide with Bureau activity and events, as well as maintaining the social media channels and updating the website.
The most enjoyable aspect of my role is:
I am exposed to a wide range of business activity every single day. As I am not from Brisbane, I love that I am constantly learning new things about the city.
To be successful in digital you must be able to:
Always put your audience first – without an engaged customer base or audience you are just shouting into the vacuum. It’s also important to keep up with digital marketing and industry trends.
What excites me most about the business events scene in Brisbane is:
Post-Dreamtime, the momentum and growth of the incentives market in Brisbane is exciting – I’m really looking forward to see where Brisbane is going. Knowing projects like the new Brisbane Airport runway, the W Brisbane, Howard Smith Wharves and the Queen’s Wharf development are all so close to coming to fruition, it feels like the next chapter of this city is about to begin.
One place I like to visit when I am in Brisbane is:
I love visiting the Scenic Rim. Hiking to the waterfalls on Tamborine Mountain, sitting on the swing chair at Kooroomba with a glass of wine in hand or driving out to Aratula for the Winter Harvest Festival – parts of the region remind me a little bit of home.
My favourite time of year in Brisbane is:
Winter. The winter sunshine in Brisbane is unlike anything anywhere else.
When I’m not at work you’ll find me:
Eating arancini at Julius in Fish Lane, or the goat’s curd and truffle honey entrée at OTTO.
One country I would like to visit but have never been to is:
Iceland. When I was in high school, I did an assignment on geothermal energy (weird, I know), but I’ve been obsessed with visiting ever since. My favourite Brisbane fact is that Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary uses geothermal energy. Also, Spain. Four years of studying Spanish and one long-running obsession with telenovelas later, and I still haven’t managed to make it there.
