A big thank you to the newly opened Elizabeth Picture Theatre who hosted our most recent Brisbane Marketing networking event. A great night was had by all and everyone loved the show-reel of upcoming films for the December – January period.
Queensland Tourism Award winners
Congratulations to the Brisbane Marketing members who were awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended at the recent Queensland Tourism Awards. Gold winners gain automatic entry into the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Perth on 23 February 2018. Best of luck!

Lone Pine welcomes new wombat
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary has welcomed a new common wombat, ”Bruce Almighty” to the family. Known day-to-day as “Bruce”, this spritely young wombat made the move from South Australia to sunny Brisbane, and was recently introduced to his exhibit. Bruce was orphaned at a young age and was hand-raised by a wildlife carer. He will now call Lone Pine his “forever home”. Find Bruce in the wombat exhibit daily.
Investment Attraction team recognised on the global stage
Brisbane Marketing’s Investment Attraction team has been recognised by fDi Intelligence through its global fDi Strategy Awards 2017.
Brisbane Marketing was awarded for its:
- Sector Incentives – Hotels and tourism investment
- Commended for project wins – Asahi Beverages
- Specialism in hotels and tourism
fDi Intelligence said of the specialism in Hotels and Tourism, “Brisbane’s tourism infrastructure strategy has been introduced to focus on attracting investment that improves the city’s tourism and visitor economy. Several developments are in Brisbane Marketing’s sights, including cruise ship terminals, and major tourist attractions that will drive tourist demand and, it hopes, investment.”
Sirromet among the best in the world
Votes for Tasting Book's Best Wine in the World competition have been tallied with Sirromet’s Le Sauvage Chardonnay placing 3rd and Le Sauvage Shiraz Viognier placing 5th. The initial three-month voting phase at Tastingbook.com gathered an astonishing 1,333,896 votes from over 620,000 wine lovers and professionals from 105 countries. Congratulations to Sirromet, who are a long-standing partner of Brisbane Marketing. It’s great to see the Granite Belt wines on the world stage alongside Montverro, Penfolds and Moet et Chandon.
Greek Club to undergo transformation
The Greek Club will close its doors on 1 January through to the start of April to undergo major renovations. Set to offer a beautiful new look, The Greek Club will see lower level function spaces completely refurbished, the addition of a spectacular Grand Balcony and private dining room, cocktail bar and sleek, open servery.

Airtrain welcomes NGR trains
Airtrain has welcomed New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) trains to service the Airport and Gold Coast line. Launched on 11 December, the new trains feature artwork by Gilimbaa, symbolising pathways across the land to the sea, opening up country and connecting the people of Queensland. Expect the new trains to feature more legroom, larger windows and to be fully Wi-Fi enabled.
OTTO celebrates the festive season
OTTO Brisbane is launching a BYO Saturday lunch to celebrate the season. Catch up with friends over a three course menu and BYO wine every Saturday from now until 30 December. $75 per person for a three course meal including corkage.
For mid-week Christmas catch-ups, enjoy two courses and an Aperol Spritz on arrival Monday-Wednesday for lunch and dinner for just $45 per person.
Eagle Farm Racecourse will be decked out for the Christmas season, showing free Christmas movies from 18 December. See Elf, Home Alone, Santa Claus, The Grinch and The Polar Express under the stars with a free frozen drink in hand. There will also be Christmas carols and face painting for the kids to enjoy.
Tickets for 2018 race days are on sale – including Sofitel Girls Day Out and Blokes Day Out. The Summer Society New Year’s Eve Party still has tickets available.

Brisbane Comedy Festival’s 2018 line-up is bursting at the seams, and will be held across three venues including Brisbane Powerhouse in March. See the best of Australian and international comic talents during the festival – tickets are available now.
