The Prop House wins coveted styling contract

Brisbane’s The Prop House has been selected as the event designer for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village. The talented Brisbane-based design team will create spectacular themed installations across residences, retail and recreation outlets for the 6000-plus athletes who will take part in the Games. From the reef to the rainforest, the installations will reflect Australia’s most recognisable scenery, with the Prop House hoping to motivate travel towards various corners of the country.

Must-do activity launches outside Brisbane

Ovolo Group acquires Brisbane’s acclaimed Emporium Hotel

Ovolo Hotels, the boutique hotel brand behind some of Australia’s top hotels, has doubled its Brisbane portfolio with the acquisition of Emporium Hotel in Fortitude Valley.

As the hotel group’s second Brisbane addition in just 12 months, the move marks another milestone for the rapidly expanding Ovolo brand, increasing its number of rooms on offer in the Queensland capital to more than 150.

QLD tourism operators receive award recognition

Australia’s tourism industry gathered recently at the 2017 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. Among those awarded were Brisbane Marketing members:

The awards come at a time when Australian tourism continues to break records, with a record $41.2 billion spent by more than eight million international visitors during the year to September 2017.

Tiger Island’s new arrivals

Dreamworld

Dreamworld’s Tiger Island has two adorable new additions. The yet-to-be-named sister cubs were born on 24 January to mum, Nika. This is the sixth litter born at Dreamworld since Tiger Island opened in 1995. The cubs are expected to make their first public appearance soon.
