Global education agents to be shown best of Brisbane

Education agents from across the world have arrived in Brisbane as part of the Brisbane – Start Here Go Anywhere program, which will profile the city as a world-class study destination to international student markets.

The 49 agents from countries including India, China and Indonesia will experience the best of what Brisbane – a top 25 student city globally - has to offer, allowing them to advise prospective international students and help drive demand for Brisbane.

Taking a Team Brisbane approach, the group will be hosted by Study Brisbane, The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, Iglu and Student One, with support from Study Queensland.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said he was looking forward to personally welcoming the group and showing them how studying in Brisbane opens a world of opportunities.

Brisbane is Australia’s New World City - a multicultural hub of creativity and innovation that provides students with a warm welcome and opportunities for employment, internships, work experience and volunteering,” Cr Schrinner said.

During the famil, visiting agents will have the opportunity to explore our world-class education institutions and quality accommodation providers, and sample our city’s unique lifestyle for themselves.

Brisbane has one of the most diverse international student populations in the country. Our city is a great place to study, work, live and relax, and enables students to pursue the careers of their choice anywhere in the world.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) at QUT, Professor Scott Sheppard, said the Brisbane – Start Here Go Anywhere initiative will give counsellors a first-hand experience of student life in Brisbane.

They’ll return home champions for Queensland, confident to send students to Brisbane, after QUT International initiated the consortium under the support of Trade and Investment Queensland,” Professor Sheppard said.

We want to make sure the students coming to Brisbane are well informed and confident in their decision, so they have a positive experience. This initiative will help us towards that goal. QUT is very proud of the diversity of its international students and welcomes students from around 150 countries each year to its campuses in Brisbane.

The University of Queensland’s Director of International Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions Alison Jenkins said The University of Queensland has a long-standing relationship with international education agents.

This joint initiative is testament to the importance of international students to our community and the value we place on education agents attracting prospective students to our shores.

We look forward to welcoming the visiting group and showcasing the exceptional opportunities students are provided.”

Vice President (Global) at Griffith University Professor Sarah Todd said Griffith is pleased to be part of this initiative.

Not only do we get the chance to showcase the world-class programs and facilities of our Brisbane campuses, but we also get the chance to join with consortium members in demonstration of our shared commitment to the quality of experience for international students choosing to live and study in Brisbane,” Professor Todd said.

Student One CEO Tim Weston said the CBD-based student accommodation provider looked forward to showcasing Brisbane as the country’s new go-to education destination for international students studying in Australia.

With close to 2,400 beds across three residences in Brisbane’s city centre, Student One is giving international students what they desire – an exciting, socially vibrant and centrally located home base from where they can quickly access university, employment and lifestyle opportunities,” Mr Weston said.

The Brisbane - Start here go anywhere program is proudly co-funded with the support of the Queensland Government’s International Education and Training Partnership Fund, managed by Study Queensland within Trade and Investment Queensland.
