Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has officially welcomed Silicon Valley-based IIX to Brisbane after the company chose the city for its new Asia Pacific headquarters.

“I am thrilled that IIX has chosen to establish its Asia Pacific base here in Brisbane, a move that will create 40 jobs and potentially double that number in 12 months,” Cr Quirk said.

“IIX’s decision to invest in Brisbane again demonstrates the attractiveness of our workforce to overseas companies and further enhances Brisbane’s position as a significant digital city.”

IIX’s SDI platform enables programmable interconnection between networks that allow customers to gain more control, improve security and reduce costs by communicating through the company’s platforms.

IIX customers include content providers, data centre providers and internet service cloud application providers.

IIX Chief Technology Officer Paul Gampe said Brisbane’s engineering talent and continued pipeline of talent from its universities were critical in choosing to set up in the city.

“Brisbane has developed a reputation as a major international hub for open-source software development,” Mr Gampe said.

“This decision means Brisbane will have a team of leading open-source software and network engineers playing an integral role in helping IIX deliver on its goal to enable simple, secure and scalable direct interconnection across the globe between content providers, cloud application providers and other organisations.

“The Brisbane office will play a strategic role within the company’s growing global software engineering group.”

Cr Quirk said this significant investment reinforced Brisbane’s growing reputation as a serious player in the Asia Pacific region.

“The city of Brisbane is open for business and there is plenty of interest from international investors,” he said

IIX also has offices in Ontario, Canada and Manchester, England and is backed by the global venture capital firm, New Enterprises Associates.
